Are we nearly there yet?

Cases have been packed. Front doors checked.
Clunks have been clicked. Barley Sugars dispensed. (Yes, I know I'm showing my age).
We've pulled out of the garage, and out of the drive.
We're on our way at last.
But we all know what's coming. Sure enough... before we've even had a chance to break out the Thermos and play I-Spy, the impatient cry goes up.
No, we're not nearly there yet.

It's Sustainability, stupid! Yes, the word is oft heard. Yes, more and more companies and organisations can be seen thinking and working hard toward 'sustainments', the name coined by the EcoDesign Foundation for incremental steps made in the pursuit of sustainability (see Page 29 of the current issue). Awareness is growing. Good practice is spreading. Let's face it, now even Tony's got Jonathon!
However, as Jonathon Porritt himself said in our first issue: "The construction industry has started down the road of sustainable development, and that's greatly to be welcomed – but, there's a huge amount to be done if business opportunities are to be seized."

Seize the day... after tomorrow!

Networks are vital to growth and development. Networks educate.
SPONGE, the new network of construction and property professionals is planning a weekend event to brainstorm sustainable options for the development of a major site in central London. As well as design and environmental issues, the organisers are keen to cover planning, transport and technology. Anyone who is interested and would like to participate should contact sponge@bre.co.uk for further details. (sustain' magazine is the official Business Media Patron for Sponge.)
Network now!... And now!... And now!...
