water
partnerships
New development, stretched resources, diffuse pollution - all
are taking their toll on the water industry. After years spent solving
problems only they could tackle, Barrie Clarke, Water UK's
Director of Communications, explains why water
companies are now seeking partners to help them keep up the good work.
thinking
extremes: no waste
Ban
an organisation from exporting any solid waste from their land and change
the organisation's
relationship to waste and buying choices forever. A practical idea?
Peter Guthrie, Professor for Sustainable Development, Cambridge University,
and Director of Scott Wilson, believes it may just do the trick...
heat-seeking
mission
Thermal vision is now recognised as a useful tool in energy-management
projects. Here, Ben Moxon, TXU Project Manager, Energy in the Community,
explains how thermal imaging footage has revealed some dramatic reults
for an energy-conservation project in Thurnscoe, South Yorkshire.
sustainabilty
accounting
At the recent Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Awards for Sustainability Reporting 2002, it was clear that the winners
demonstrated transparency and openness in terms of presenting data in
all award categories. One of the judges commented that one of the things
that they hoped to see in future reports would be an increase in understanding,
quantifying and beginning to internalise external environmental and
social costs - a quantified 'triple bottom line'.
