contours of the
energy playing field
Whilst
the Government's recent Energy White Paper stressed the need to promotr
renewable energy, it also states that renewables must justify themselves
within the regime of free-market competition. But in the head-to-head
battle with fossil fuels, are the odds unevenly stacked? Professor
Peter F Smith, RIBA Councillor, believes that some important market
anomalies need to be corrected if renewables are ever to compete fairly
with fossil energy.
grounds
for success
At
the moment if you see the words 'sport' and 'regeneration' together
in a magazine, the chances are you'll be reading a piece about London's
bid to host the 2012 Olympics. However, whilst the success of this bid
may have a far-reaching impact on regeneration, especially in the Thames
Gateway area, the truth is that the real effect that sport is having
on on the urban renaissance is happening throughout Britain, and its
happening now. Jon Ladd, Chief Executive, BURA, details the findings
of a new best-practice report on sport and regeneration.
