Going out with a bang: the last cover of Sustain in print
This year, Sustain magazine will join the digital age, shifting from a bi-monthly print publication to become an online publication.
The 16-year-old magazine will relaunch early in 2014 with new branding and a reinvigorated website, which will be accompanied by a programme of face-to-face events throughout the year.
The move also represents a change in the editorial direction of this magazine for sustainability professionals, spearheaded by new editor Jess McCabe.
She said: ‘Sustain magazine is in a unique position – it’s a publication about the future, with a wonderful history that we will be building on. The businesses and projects that Sustain writes about are thinking deeply about how to be sustainable, and so are we – rebranding and going online is a big part of that. This change will help our readers keep abreast of the very latest developments in sustainability.
‘Sustain will continue to be home to the most cutting-edge and thought-provoking writing about sustainability in the built environment and more broadly. But rather than updating once every two months, we will continuously update our readership of sustainability professionals. We will place a stronger emphasis on investigative reporting, as well as accessible, but in depth, commentary from leading sustainability experts.
‘We are also keen for feedback and ideas from readers as we shape the future direction of Sustain.’
The relaunched Sustain will publish a mix of investigative reportage, opinion pieces by the foremost thinkers on topics as broad as the latest attempts to use bio-mimicry in construction projects around the world, to how to run a shopping mall with the smallest environmental footprint, to cutting the energy bills of ordinary people. Regular blogs will combine with thought pieces and expert commentary to keep the sustainability professional up-to-date and intrigued.
David Moran, chief executive of Ocean Media Group, the publisher of Sustain, said: ‘Ocean Media Group is committed to investing in Sustain, to ensure it meets the dynamic and evolving needs of its readers. We are excited and proud to be able to set Sustain on a new digital path which will, under Jess’ guidance, continue to meet the needs of sustainability professionals for many years to come.’
