Haven Timber Build Project by LSI Architects

The owner of this private-residence located on the Norfolk Broads approached LSI Architects looking to build a state-of-the-art modern sustainable home… and this is what they came back to him with, a sustainable house equipped to reduce potential flood damage.

The four-bedroom house meets Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and features pre-insulated panelised walls. In fact, the build is 60% more energy efficient than a 2006 Building Regulation Compliant home.

Taking into account the high flood risk, the structure was built 1.9m above ground level. A green roof was installed on the roof to provide insulation and a flood deterrent. The roof absorbs rainwater reducing the amount on the ground. The sedum also promotes biodiversity by providing a suitable habitat for wildlife.

A ground-source pump is used under the garden to heat the under floor heating and pre-heat the water for the shower. This pump produces 9.7kW, whilst photovoltaic cells provide 1.8kW of electricity, enough for the general running of the house.
